Tatonnement for Linear and Gross Substitutes Markets
A central question in economics and computer science is when and how markets can arrive at an equilibrium. Many existing algorithms for computing equilibria in classes of Arrow-Debreu markets rely on full knowledge of the utility functions of all agents, while in reality we often face unknown markets without this information. A classic approach to unknown markets from economics is tâtonnement –...
متن کاملApproximate Market Equilibrium for Near Gross Substitutes
The property of Weak Gross Substitutibility (WGS) of goods in a market has been found to be conducive to efficient algorithms for finding equilibria. In this paper, we give a natural definition of a δ-approximate WGS property, and show that the auction algorithm of [GK04, GKV04] can be extended to give an ( + δ)-approximate equilibrium for markets with this property.

Sloan Foundation for their support. We are grateful to Vincent Crawford who provided valuable comments and pointed out to us the connection between Kelso and Crawford [5] and our work, to John Geanakoplos for suggesting a weakening of our main assumption, and to Don Brown for valuable comments.
متن کاملVCG Redistribution with Gross Substitutes
For the problem of allocating resources among multiple strategic agents, the well-known Vickrey-Clarke-Groves (VCG) mechanism is efficient, strategy-proof, and it never incurs a deficit. However, in general, under the VCG mechanism, payments flow out of the system of agents, which reduces the agents’ utilities. VCG redistribution mechanisms aim to return as much of the VCG payments as possible ...
متن کاملGross and Cellular Anatomy of the Human Nose as an Organ for Smelling
Sense of smell, often called olfaction, is a significant way for vertebrate animals that have ‘the nose’ to recognize the chemical signals from their environment. Generally, olfaction of the nose is the most important sense for the majority of vertebrate animals to maintain their survival with the exception of several mammals, including humans. Human’s ability to smell is significantly weaker t...
